Douglas J. Root, CPA
Doug graduated from Wright State University with a 4.0 and a dual major in Accounting and Finance. He worked for Arthur Andersen before he founded his own firm, Douglas J. Root & Associates, which has now evolved to Alexander, Offenberger & Root, Inc.
Doug has been extensively involved in the area of S Corporations, individual and small business tax planning, computer consulting and estate and gift tax planning. In the individual tax area, Doug has worked extensively with oil and gas interests, passive activities, rental activity, stock options and multi-state taxation. He has also worked at length in the gift and estate tax planning area, along with individual financial planning and budgeting.
Doug has worked with companies in the restaurant, real estate development, legal services, and wholesale distributions industries. He has experience with conversions from C Corporations to S Corporations, fringe benefits taxation, built in gains taxation, lease accounting and multi-state taxation.
For the past twelve years, Doug has been involved with computer consulting, backed by 21 years of computer experience. He has performed consulting services in this area in a variety of applications, including software training, hardware and software selection consulting, systems setup and installation.
As a consultant to his clients, Doug has performed office efficiency reviews, financial projections and analysis, office automation implementations and assisted with bank requirements of loans and refinance transactions.
Doug has personal ownership and management experience in the businesses of IT and engineering recruiting and placement, IT consulting, oil exploration, residential real estate rehab, vacation real estate, commercial real estate, land speculation/subdivision and timbering. Doug has also served as a board member for a local community bank and has served as an advisory board member for a local university.
Doug is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants
Doug and his wife Robin, a first grade teacher, reside in Springboro with their sons Alex and Parker.
Mark Alexander, CPA
Mark graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1985. He worked for Arthur Andersen for nine years before working for two large, local firms and Alexander, Root & Company.
Mark works extensively in the areas of S Corporations, Partnerships, individual and small business tax planning, and estate and gift tax planning. Within these areas, Mark has worked on numerous extensive mergers and acquisitions, compensation planning including stock option taxation, and succession/family planning.
Mark has worked with a wide variety of business and individual clients. His primary focus is with private, closely held businesses in the manufacturing, distribution, construction, and service industries.
Mark is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mark and his wife Michelle reside in Tipp City with their daughter Rachel.
Terry F. Offenberger, CPA
Terry graduated from the University
of Dayton in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He combined his practice with the firm in October, 2006.
From 1999 to 2006 he was a shareholder with Mowery, Newkirk, Offenberger
& Company in Mason, Ohio. Terry
was employed by a large, local CPA firm and Deloitte & Touche from 1989 to
1998.
Terry provides a wide variety of tax, accounting, and consulting services to his clients. He works with privately owned clients in the manufacturing, wholesale/distribution, service, real estate, and construction industries. Terry has experience working in the areas of business/family succession planning (including family limited partnerships), estate planning, research & development tax credits, planning for the purchase or sale of intellectual property, state & local business incentives, bank financing, private party financing, multi-state income taxation, sale or purchase of a business (including working with business brokers), S Corporation conversions, individual tax planning, IRA & Roth IRA planning, rental activities, passive activities, and stock compensation planning.
Terry manages the Firm’s accounting and financial statement quality control process and works with clients in matters related to the issuance of GAAP, income tax and other basis of financial statements.
Terry
is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA),
the AICPA tax section, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He is a past Sr. Warden, Treasurer and Vestry member at St. Francis Church, Springboro, Ohio. Terry is also a musician (guitarist & vocalist) with “Circle of Praise,” an area contemporary worship group and is an active member of the Dayton Rotary.
Terry and his wife Rene', a Spanish teacher, reside in Clearcreek Township with their daughters, Madison and Erin.
